What to expect when visiting SPIEL?
SPIEL ’22
SPIEL ’22 is the world’s largest public fair for games and thus the Mecca for all board game fans. Here you can get comprehensive information about the entire national and international range of games, test them in detail and buy your favorite games right away.
In 2021, 620 exhibitors from 41 nations showed children’s, parlor, family and adult games as well as strategy, post, adventure, fantasy, science fiction and computer games. Of course, the classics Skat, Chess, Doppelkopf, Bridge, Go and Backgammon are not missing. A range of toys and comics rounds off the program.
Once again, it will be possible to try out not only thousands of games of the current year, but also more than 1,000 new games. They will all be subjected to an initial endurance test in Essen.
SPIEL in Essen means: Four days of fun, meeting friends, and a chance to try out thousands of games and novelties just in time for the holiday season. Convince yourself of the quality of the international games market and feel free to buy your favourite ones!
Accessible SPIEL
Wheelchairs can be rented for a deposit of EUR 50,– and presentation of an ID card. Please reserve by telephone: +49 (0)201 724-4417.
The Underground line 11 travels directly from Essen Central Station to the entrances Messe East (in front of hall 8), Messe South (in front of hall 1) and Messe West (in front of hall 3).
160 meters from the platform at entrance West, there is a ramp leading to the entrance. From there it is about 270 m to the South entrance and about 700 m to the East entrance. At the entrance East there is an elevator which leads from the Underground station to the entrance.
Toilet facilities for the disabled are near the foyers. These are equipped with the EURO WC closure on the exhibition grounds. If you do not have this key, the toilet maintenance staff can unlock the WC for you on-site. In addition, at every exhibition information station you will receive a corresponding key upon presentation of your ID.

Barrier-free stay at the trade fair
Wheelchairs can be rented upon payment of a deposit of EUR 50 and presentation of an ID card. Reservations by telephone are requested: +49 (0)201 724-4417.
Subway line 11 runs directly from Essen Central Station to the entrances CC East (in front of Hall 8), CC South (in front of Hall 1) and CC West (in front of Hall 3). From the platform of the CC West stop, a ramp leads to the entrance after approx. 160 meters. From there it is about 270 meters to the South Entrance and about 700 meters to the East Entrance. There is an elevator at the East Entrance subway station.
There are disabled toilet facilities near the foyers. These are equipped with the EURO WC locking system on the exhibition grounds. If you do not have a key for this, the toilet maintenance staff will be happy to unlock the WC for you on site. You can also obtain a corresponding key at any trade fair information desk on presentation of your ID card and a deposit.

Cash Dispenser/ATM
At the fairground of Messe Essen are four fixed cash dispensers. They are located at the entrance areas West (in front of hall 3) and South (in front of hall 1), as well as in Hall 4A and at the East area. These cash dispensers only allow payouts.
Apart from that there are also various bank branches in the immediate vicinity of the Messe Essen, as follows:

Lugagge and lockers
In the foyers in front of hall 1 and hall 3 you can find lockers where you can place your lugagge and bags. For more information please contact Messe Essen: +49 (0)201 7244-0. The cloakroom in hall 8 also takes large bags, which can be refilled as often as you like during the day.
The price per bag is EUR 3,– and the first time you refill your bag, you have to pay EUR 2,– extra. From then on you can return and deposit as many games as you like at any time without any additional cost.

Opening Times and Tickets
Thursday to Saturday, October 6th to 8th 2022, the convention is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Sunday, October 9th 2022, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Shipping and packaging service at SPIEL!
Visitors of SPIEL ’22 will have the option to ship their purchased games directly from the fairground to their homes again. Further information can be found here.
